Hello Mark,
I have checked the case number and see that the case has been escalated to the developer's team for getting a suggestion to fix the issue. Once we get a reply from them, the senior technicians will contact you via email with the resolution.
Your patience is much appreciated.
Mark, Windows Defender is an anti-malware component of Microsoft Windows. It was first released as a free antispyware program download for Windows XP, shipped with Windows Vista and Windows 7 and made into a full antivirus program replacing Microsoft Security Essentials as part of Windows 8 and later versions. Therefore if you're using Win 8 or 10 when AVG is installed Defender should be auto disabled otherwise it'll conflict with AVG.

That's exaxctly the issue, Alan. All worked just fine from purchase of AVG (in May) through to end of December. Then, all of a sudden AVG was reporting issues that I was not protected. After a few de-installs & re-installs, it appears that AVG would not switch off Defender. Hence I suspect a Windows update at the end of December. Two attempts at remote support failed to overcome this. Its with the techs now.
