So AVG; 1. Why would installation and repair of your program remove non-related programs? 2. Do you how I can reinstall MS office on my computer?
I downloaded the latest paid version of AVG antivirus from my AVG account login. I ran the installation. I changed the default installation folder to the \program files\ folder where the 2014 version was installed (64 bit folder). I deselected the extra language files to be installed. I chose the manual reboot option at the end of installation. I made sure all files were closed I might have had opened, then rebooted the computer.
At restart, I received error messages about some of my programs not being found, then Windows had error messages that my antivirus program was not enabled.
I followed the link Windows Error message had, and the "enable" button for AVG could not be selected.
I ran the installation file for AVG again, chose the "repair" option. After a few minutes AVG gave the error that the "msi" package failed.
I went to control panel and disabled two AVG programs running in the background from running and from starting again. I then turned off the computer.
Logged back into my AVG account and this time downloaded ONLY the 64 bit version. Then downloaded the AVG remover program – removed AVG. Installed the 64 bit version. AVG seems to work now, but….
At startup, same error messages, but now I noticed that about 6 of my 64 bit programs in that "\Program files" subdirectory HAVE BEEN UNINSTALLED. Why would installing AVG unistall programs?? Also, AVG deleted my Office 365 programs!
I am unable to reinstall MS Office 365 – the installation quits with various error messages. I’ve even booted my computer in “clean” mode.
I’ve never had this program with AVG before nor installing other programs. I’ve wasted 6 hours of my time up to this point and am quite frustrated.
So AVG; 1. Why would installation and repair of your program removed non-related programs? 2. Do you have a magic touch in install MS office on my computer?
No a happy 15 year subscriber to AVG.
Hello Steven, sorry to hear that. It is unlikely that AVG would uninstall/remove other programs without any detection dialog. I would suggest try using system restore. Thank you.
