Jim,
We are sorry to hear about the inconvenience caused. We request you to provide us the screenshot http://avgclick.me/getscreenshot of the error message you are getting so that we could check and help you further. Thank you.
Jim,
We apologize for the delay, your patience is much appreciated. This task is for AVG's Emergency Update feature and is vital in case AVG is e.g. due to some technical issues, for some reason and standard update functionality is not working. Thank you!
I've done the repair as requested. I rebooted the computer, as requested, after the repair was complete and after the machine had restarted I checked the "Scheduled Tasks" folder and found that the repair had put the "AVG EUpdate Task" back in the folder.
I've never seen AVG create tasks before. If this is something new I'm fine with that, but I just want to know why this task is being created and what this task does to my system.
I'm running AVG Free Version 16.111.7797 on a Windows XP SP3 machine. In the last week or so, I've noticed a task called AVG Eupdate showing up in my Scheduled Tasks folder. I have no idea what it is and have deleted it several times, only to find that it re-appears after a day or so. I'd like to get rid of this thing but don't know how to do it. By the way, I've got another machine running the same version of AVG on Windows XP and it does not have this task showing up.
As requested, I disabled the scheduled update of Avg. I rebooted the machine and then turned the scheduled update back on. I did this on Monday night. Today I noticed that the "AVG EUpdate Task" has returned to my "Scheduled Tasks" folder.
I'm becoming concerned that perhaps this question has gone dead. It has been over two days since I posted the above reply and I've heard nothing back from you. This is in sharp contrast to the quick replies I had been receiving up to that point.
I'm still very concerned as to why AVG is creating this task and what it is supposed to be doing to my machine?
Hello Jim,
Thank you for the information. Could you please let us know if you have recently enabled the AVG Scheduled update or scheduled scan in your computer?
Thank you.

Hello Jim,
We do understand your concern. Please be informed as we have mentioned above the this task is for AVG's Emergency Update feature and is vital in case of failure of the automatic updates. The failure reason might vary depending on PC's functions and that's the reason only two of your PC has the issue.
Thank you.
Jim,
Thank you for the information. Let us know if your AVG interface shows as your "protection is up to date" or it is showing as "updating now". Awaiting your reply, thank you.
I just checked and the interface is showing "Protection is up to date". I did notice something odd though. The attached shot of the event history shows an update starting at 10:10:20 last night and not finishing until 8:20:28 this morning. I briefly used the computer last night then put on standby until this morning. I wonder if this had something to do with it?
Jim, For your info, just in case that you are unaware, you can post the screenshot here in your topic. Click on 'Answer' & then click on the 'Image' [mountain symbol] & follow the instructions.

I have the Scheduled Scan disabled and have never used it. I have not changed the settings on the Scheduled Updates either, but when I looked at the Advanced Settings I notice it is set to "Run automatically" which I don't recall being an option in the past. I've attached a screen shot:
