AVG file stops boot, 'Rescue' no help

Hello William,

Sorry to hear that, This is quite old issue and not sure if it is related to AVG.

Some of our users solved similar issues by changing SATA mode from AHCI to IDE compatibility mode in BIOS.
Several users were able to boot normally without changing anything, but first complete boot takes about 30 minutes.
Other users reported that performing CHKDSK from Windows recovery console solved their issue.
I would request you to try the Windows Last Known Good Configuration also.

Thank you.

When I start the computer (Windows Vista) and choose Safe mode, booting stops hard at the file avgidshx.sys, which per 'Rescue' instructions I changed to avgidshx.old.

After maybe five hours, I have managed to install 'Rescue' and figure out how to change the suffixes of all AVG startup files (10) from .sys to .old.

This, according to online instructions for How to Remove AVG that's blocking startup, is all I need to do to boot the computer and take out AVG programs.

Alas, the only change is that the upload of boot files now stops at crcdisk.sys.  No idea what that means.

Anyone know how to make 'Rescue' work to boot the computer so I can temporarily uninstall my AVG programs and use my computer? The online instructions just don't help at all.

Thank you. Bill
