Avg firewall blocks internet in windows 10

I've had this same issue 3 times and just now - through this post - I have found a light to what may be happening. I have the paid AVG Ultimate anti-virus installed on my windows 10 laptop and I've had to reinstall windows 2 times already in just 2 months because AVG will not uninstall completely in any other way. I have lost entire days of work and I cannot see here (or anywhere else, for that matter) a definitive solution for this issue. Any alternative to having to reinstall windows on my laptop again? Please help…!

I'm an I.T. professional and have been using AVG and recommending it to clients for many years with few problems. Since the ZEN update I've been having issues with client computers as well as my own. Right after the update from the prior version on my laptop, the wireless stopped working. I'm using the FREE edition with NO firewall. There are no AVG protocols bound to my wireless adapter, but the second I disabled AVG the connection started working immediately.
I've had to uninstall / reinstall the product completely to solve some issues on client computers, which usually works. I haven't tried it yet on my laptop.
I understand every software product has technical challenges, but this version seems to have been released a little too soon, especially the product update module. Perhaps AVG should just perform a complete uninstall / reinstall during their update as a temporary fix.
I'll update if I find any additional fixes or information.

Hi There
I am also having the same really annoying problem as Richard D.
I am running Windows 7 - 64 Bit.
I cannot open Internet Explorer.
I cannot open a link with uses Internet Explorer
I can open Chrome with AVG running. If I temporarly disable AVG then IE works great.
This has happened after I made the update to version 16.71.7597 today.

Please can someone help - Thanks.

Hello Bel. I apologize for the inconvenience caused. Could you please let us know whether you have received any blocking popups from the AVG program and please check whether your firewall mode is set to automatic? Thank you.

What, if I disable AVG on the host PC, the one, linked to the router and modem, to resume Windows Defender, in lieu with Malwarebytes; and leave AVG operational on the Wi-Fi connected (second) PC?

Please, respond! I really need a feedback.

Thank you very,very much!

Abel,
I apologize for the delayed response. Please be informed that AVG 2017 don't use the "AVG Network filter driver" as previous versions. Please provide more details regarding what have you been experiencing with your internet. This will help us to assist further.
Thank you.

Hi AVG,

Firstly, if so many people have the same issue why not just post the answer and stop wasting peoples time? instead of "check your email bla bla crap"

Secondly, the exact same issue is happening on windows 10 with avg updated almost 2 years after the post was made, why the hell am i paying you guys to write shitty code and not fix it? do you not alpha or beta test updatesd before releasing them?

I have 4 computers in the office that have this issue, something that i should have been able to read the thread and find the answer and resolve, now i will be waiting for days to have a response "in my email". you have 24 hours to resolve this issue or i will change to another provider. As other providers take their customers security seriously.

Yes the process works.
I spent 4-hours talking to Sky Support before finding the issue listed on this forum.

if using a wifi connection with Windows 10 then do the following …

Open AVG and Disable the Firewall
      Open the Firewall icon
Click on small star shape (bottom right)  to open the firewall Setting Page
Select Disable Firewall protection and click Apply

right click on on the Wifi connection (bottom right of desktop - 'quick-pick')
Open 'Network Settings'
scroll down and open 'Network and Sharing Center'
Click on Connection: Wi-Fi connection
In the Wi-Fi Status box open Properties
find AVG Network Filter Driver and Deselect (un-check)
click on OK then close Wi-Fi status box

close all open windows

open AVG again and Turn on Firewall.

If Wi-Fi is turn end off then…
open the Wi-Fi connection (bottom right of desktop)
Then Connect Wi-Fi

open Internet page to check connection is working ok

The only answer that really works is from Avinash, repeated below.
However, the only way AVG works is by disabling a part of it… That's funny (not quite!!)
Now I don't know if I am protected enough, because I disabled a part.

Maria,
Have you tried this steps mentioned below (provided earlier on this thread) to fix the issue?
Make sure the Firewall is disabled, then…

1. Open Control Panel
2. Open Network Sharing Center
3. Click the link to "Local Area Connection" in the Connections area on the right
4. Click Properties
5. You should see in the list of items one called "AVG network filter driver" - if this has a tick, deselect it and then click OK
6. The remaining windows and then turn the Firewall back on - hopefully this should work!

Sorry to say but the problem is persistent, yet the reply stay the same throughout,
send analytics, un-install, re-install, follow the advice from other users, as we would have followed their advice also
.
In this day and age one does not have the time to babysit a company, its products and support.
Should AVG not be able to provide a solution then acknowledge this.
Except for the financial loss, it is far easier to move onto another protection system than to put up with the nonsensical replies from AVG.

I have the same problem! Every day I have to uninstall to get my internet back and the reinstall to be protected, which costs me about 30 minutes of my working day. ´This is intolarable! I use the FREE version, but was going to buy the full version. Unless this problems is fixed within the next 2 days, I am going to buy McAfee. I can't NOT be protected and I can't NOT be connected to internet. Please advise.

Hello I am having the same issue.

Windows 10 - just updated

AVG Ultimate - firewall blocks all internet traffic. Tried setting it to interactive and no alerts come up and can't use the internet. Had to diable the firewall to be able to get online.

The Windows 10 updates that ocurred today were:

Security Update for Microsoft OneNote 2013 (KB3115256) 32-Bit Edition

Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1607 for x64-based Systems (KB3176495)

Security Update for Skype for Business 2015 (KB3115431) 32-Bit Edition

Security Update for Microsoft Outlook 2013 (KB3115452) 32-Bit Edition

Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool for Windows 8, 8.1, 10 and Windows Server 2012, 2012 R2 x64 Edition - August 2016 (KB890830)

Security Update for Microsoft Office 2013 (KB3115427) 32-Bit Edition

Security Update for Microsoft Word 2013 (KB3115449) 32-Bit Edition

Security Update for Microsoft Office 2013 (KB3114340) 32-Bit Edition

I also updated AVG Ultimate but the firewall still doesn't allow any internet traffic.

Had the same problem, AVG pro. A few months ago I solved the problem but cannot remember what I did.
Again- 1 PC connected via ethernet cable to router, no internet with AVG firewall on. Other laptops, mobiles and tablets in the house all running AVG work just fine.
Followed Bruce Levitan steps ( first to come with this solution in January) and PC works fine again.
Another problem is AVG pop-ups telling me the connection is not secure/ trusted, although it is my home connection. Clicking buttons for option or 'I trust this network' do absolutely nothing as the pop-up is completely unresponsive.
Useless AVG support, all they can say is we are sorry for your problem and that they understand your frustration … most probably with an indian accent. Last year with AVG for my household.

This thread started in August 2015. It's now December 2016 and AVG users are still struggling with the same problems. AVG's response each time is to apologise, then ask people to uninstall and reinstall their software…

I've uninstalled (using AVG Remover), and manually deleted (app data, etc) and reinstalled AVG so many times now it's beyond infuriating. Each time, my internet connection works for a day or two, then everything becomes blocked again.

Is there an answer or and actual fix to this problem, or will I just be told to uninstall and reinstall AVG again? I've been a paid user for years, but as AVG haven't properly addressed this huge problem for its users after 15+ months, they show they're not willing to fix their problems and instead are charging their users for software that makes their computers unusable.

I have had 2 remote sessions with your technicians, with a complete uninstall/re-install of AVG. This still has NOT resolved my problem with Wifi connectivity. As soon as I disable AVG, wifi is fine. Activate = no Wifi. This has been an immeasurable waste of time. I have been a faithful customer of AVG for many years, however you're losing me for a better 'bugfree' product. AVG needs to resolve these issues prior to implementing into the retail world.

I just had the same basic problem as everyone else.  A windows 10 update was just applied today automatically (Security Update KB 3193494) as well as two other major updates that were (according to Windows) installed tomorrow (KB 3176935 and KB3176937).  Notwithstanding the obvious bollocks in the Windows date reporting, since there are only a couple of places in the world that have got to tomorrow, I suspect that one of these updates has done something to the AVG firewall driver for the network.
After the Win10 update had rebooted the PC, I had no internet access by browser (I could ping, so the network itself was functional).  All other devices were working, so I knew it was an issue specific to my machine.  AVG reported a yellow warning symbol stating a firewall issue (thankfully) so I fairly quickly worked out to disable the firewall and got internet access back.
Found this thread and follwed the instructions from Feb (Dave Hanna?) as follws:

Open AVG and Disable the Firewall

on the PC, click on network connection icon (right click Open Network and Sharing Center, on the left menu select change adapter settings) or (left click, network settings, change adapter settings)
right click network adapter (mine was a wired connection called Local Area Connection) and select properties
Find AVG network filter driver and un-check it.
Apply change
Open AVG again and Turn on Firewall.
After that, browsing was working, and as far as I can tell the AVG firewall is on.

Horrible software, sorry but this has caused us so much damage!

Blocking all traffic through browsers and we thought it was caused by update from Windows 10.

I cant really see why this hasnt been fixed from your end.

I am in the same predicament.  Long time customer.  Run AVG on all devices in my house.  I have only upgraded one machine to Windows 10, and sometimes it just decides to stop allowing any browser traffic.  I disable AVG firewall (set to ALLOW ALL) and everything starts working.  Is there any kind of solution yet?  You've clearly told plenty of people to gather data now.

Thanks,
Josh

It comes to something when a Customer publishes the answer and not AVG themselves…

Ok so I managed to fix my issue by doing the following steps.
1) Go to Install AVG on your PC, Mac | AVG installation files
2) Go to the installation tab and download AVG remover.
3) Once uninstalled, go onto MY AVG account and redownload the AVG you are subscribed to.
4) Close all browsers and programs
6) Reinstall AVG
7) Once installed login to your AVG account when the profram requests it
8) Once logged in and finished setting up it will ask you to OPEN BROWSER with a big green link at the bottom of the AVG App
9) Click this, agree to let AVG install and change everything - you can change your homepage etc back later if you want.
10) Once it's all done that should be it.

It worked for me anyway - hopefully this will help some of you

I've been posting on this forum for weeks, uninstalled AVG countless times (and been told to uninstall and reinstall again) I've been offered a remote Engineer to connect to my computer (via a computer that cannot access the internet because AVG is blocking it!!). And here I am again, typing on this forum via my phone as my computer, again, cannot access the internet. It's clear AVG aren't going to fix the problem and so I'm asking for my money back (I'm a paid user) and I'll use a different provider. Weeks upon weeks of frustration with no solution coming isn't acceptable.
