I am unable to use email clients on Windows 10 to access Gmail via imap since some software upgrade about a month ago. It was working fine before that.
This is really annoying and I had a hard time tracking it down. Disabling the AVG firewall fixed the problem immediately.
I do not want to run without a firewall but I need access to Gmail.
Please advise if I should:
A) Somehow authorize the recommended imap connection for Gmail (instructions needed)
B) Use some other firewall product that does not have this problem
Thanks,
Ron Bennett

Hello Ron,
I am sorry to hear this. I would request you to follow the instructions to change the Firewall settings: Open AVG Zen -> Internet Security -> Click on Menu in the top right corner -> Settings -> Components -> Firewall -> Customize -> Network Profiles -> Change the networks from Public to Private and check the Imap.
If you face any issues, please contact us back.
Hello Ron,
I am happy to hear that your issue is resolved. This issue was caused because of the network profile, this was selected by default to public for better protection and blocks almost every port. Since you are connected to your home network, it should be selected as "Private" to allow all important ports. The previous technician informed as imap by mistake, what she meant was to check your email client.

Yes, changing the wireless network and router from Public to Private seemed to work. I can now get emails with the firewall enabled.
But I'm unclear about the meaning of the phrase "check the Imap". Does this mean that I should check some imap setting? Or simply that I should test the imap connection after switching to a private profile?
On another note, this was a frustrating experience. Could you please enhance your firewall so that it issues a warning when an imap connection is blocked? I would very much like to specify whether I want that sort of connection blocked or not. I had no warning and no indication that this was a firewall problem.
