AVG Firewall is preventing Ancestry FTM accessing internet

Alok Kumar
I will get back to you on this, but I need to wait for an answer from the FTM site - which apparently has changed owners, (now Mackiev.com) I am starting to suspect this is an issue that they are responsible for.
Apologies, I will get back to you.
Ann

Ann,
I understand this must be upsetting. I will help to fix it.
I suggest you to change the firewall network profile from "Public" to "Private" and check if that fixes the issue. To change this settings, please open the AVG Internet Security and click on Menu>Settings>Components>Firewall>Customize>Network profile.

Also, please Enable all the System Rules under Menu>Settings>Components>Firewall>Customize>Policies.

I have a programme called Family Tree Maker (Ancestry) and I can no longer use it due to a pop up notification saying " A firewall is preventing FTM from accessing the Internet"
I have tried "Exceptions" in AVG Settings by typing in the Url and File Path, All to no avail.  I am sick and tired of the problems I have with AVG, in particular having just paid an extra £15 subscription compared to last years.

Hello Alok Kumar
I have just received an answer from Mackiev.com (who have taken over Ancestry FTM) and the jist of it is that as of July 2017 it is no longer possible to access the Internet on the current FTM programme that I have. Here is an extract :-
"That moment arrived when FTM 2017 was officially released, and on July 17, 2017 Ancestry hints, search, merge and all other features that required an Ancestry connection were retired for older editions. These connection services are now available only in FTM 2017."
I was not aware of this and I sincerely apologise for wasting your time, it was nothing to do with AVG at all.
Kind regards Ann Passeri

Akash Chanda,
I have done all the above, but still no internet connection.

Hi, Abirami Shanmugam and Alan Birch, I am new to this, When I first posted this enquiry, I was convinced it had not been posted, so I tried again. My mistake, I apologise it was not intended as a multiple post. I will now delete the duplicate post. Ann

Ann, When you install AVG on your system Windows Defender should be auto disabled.
AVG Guru

I have done all the things you instructed but it is still the same.
Would 'Windows Defender Security' affect it at all?  I have found it  on my computer, but I do not remember installing it.

Hello Ann,
I appreciate your effort in resolving this issue. I have sent you an email, please follow the email instruction to connect with us remotely, we will check with your installed AVG program and we will fix the FTM application issue.
Best regards,
Alok.
