We do understand your concern. We would like to inform you that AVG 2015 has no manual updates. It is because, we have launched AVG 2017 recently with enhanced features. In this case we recommend you to reinstall AVG with latest virus definitions.
We would request you to remove previously installed AVG program traces from your system using AVG Remover tool and then try to reinstall AVG Free Anti virus.
Note: If you have installed any other conflicting programs like AVAST, NORTON, MCAFEE or KASPERSKY try to uninstall it.

Yes, as I said - I am aware the new installer doesn't support SP2 but I installed AVG back in the days when SP2 was still supported and everything (updates) worked until a month ago.

as I said: 'I have to use old toolchains for microcontroller firmware develompment (obsolete GCC compiler versions, obsolete AVR Studio, …), obsolete software for programming microcontrollers and obsolete custom software for controlling CNC machines - some of these don't work even with SP3 or newer .dll libraries.'
These are the reasons I must use XP and SP2 so SP3 or Vista/Win 7/Win 10 is not an option.
I tried to run Repair but the message was 'Not supported OS' so I am assuming the new installer wouldn't allow to install AVG of XP SP2. A few years ago when I installed AVG 2015 the installer still worked with SP2 and updates worked until Dec 23, 2016. but not anymore.
Thank you for confirming my version is corrupted, I am going to use Control Panel + AVG Remover Tool to remove the corrupted verion and then shall see if I can install the new version.

I am aware I cannot use the new installer with SP2 and since I cannot resolve the issue I will have to remove the old version. I hope AVG remover tool is going to work.

We apologize. If you have installed AVG on SP 2 earlier, you can use that AVG. Once if you went through some issues or if you have uninstalled it, it is not possible to reinstall it. As we said earlier, we have stopped providing support for older version. The possible way to resolve this issue id by installing AVG latest version after upgraded your windows operating system. Thank you for understanding. From your brief explanation we can understand that you have installed windows XP with service pack 2 configuration. As we said earlier we have recently released enhanced version of AVG 2017 with latest virus definitions. To be reinstalled AVG we recommend you to upgrade your Windows XP OS to later version. We confirmed that your installed AVG 2015 version is corrupted, to get the issue fixed we need to reinstall it again.
Note: We can't install AVG on Service pack 2 . If you have service, we try to install it but it depends upon your system storage and performance.

- Run the downloaded file and follow the on screen instructions.
3) Restart your PC when the restart option is displayed on the remover tool screen.
4) Once you have logged into your PC after the restart, please go to C:\ drive and delete the "AVG REMOVER" folder manually.
Note : Please use the AVG Remover tool mentioned on the article to uninstall the AVG program more effectively.

Thank you for your understanding. To uninstall AVG, refer this article: http://avgclick.me/UninstallAVGAV, it will uninstall your AVG program.
Kindly download your AVG remover and run it, then go to C: drive -> AVG Remover -> Bin -> pctremover.exe and avgfmwremover.exe (do not restart your device if prompted), then run avgremover.exe (it will automatically reboot your device).
Then please remove AVG folders manually as suggested below. Go to Run window (press windows key and R key simultaneously) and type the following comments to delete the folders.
1. Type “Temp” and press enter, remove all the files.
2. “%temp%” and remove all the files.
3. %appdata% - Remove all the AVG folders.
4. %programdata% - Open the AVG folder and remove the old files.
Please go to c: drive-> program files and delete the AVG files. Please, feel free to let us know if you require any further assistance. Thank you.
