AVG free 2016 installation

Hello Bert,
We regret for the inconvenience caused. Please check whether you have installed any other conflicting applications like McAfee, Avast, Norton etc… on your PC, If so please uninstall the conflicting applications.
If not, please  click this link http://aa-download.avg.com/filedir/util/AVG_Remover.exe to download and run the AVG Remover tool to remove all the traces of the AVG.
1. Please select the AVG products which are shown in the remover tool window and then start removal process.
2. After the remover tool process is successfully finished, restart your computer.
3. After the restart,  manually delete the AVG Remover folder in the C drive of My computer.

I previously uninstalled AVG free 2016 when it started displaying IDP.ALEXA.51 found and deleted many of my applications. I'm now trying to re-install the app on my Windows 7 PC and received the error 0xE001F946. The only reference to this error code dates back to 2014, so it isn't helpful. Has anyone encountered this error recently and resolved it?

I had been using Windows Defender while waiting for AVG to fix the 'everything is a virus' problem. I intended to disable Defender before strating AVG, but it appears that you need to disable Defender BEFORE attempting to install AVG.
