AVG Free antivirus conflict with Adobe Flash Player

At the weekend I got a pop up that said that AVG free anti-virus protected me from an Adobe Flash player threat and asked if I wanted it to deal with it.  As I believed it to be genuine I clicked on yes but now Adobe flash player won't work on my laptop and when I try to download it, it fails.  Is this a virus?  I have run the AVG free anitvirus scan and it does not find any threats.  If it is a virus, any advice on how to get rid of it?  Thanks
