Hello Robert,
Let's have a look at it together. Are you able to access your mails when AVG is disabled? Right click on AVG icon under system tray next to clock, click on toggle bar to turn off your protection temporarily.
Hi Ranjani,
Thanks for you reply. I've checked the retrieval of my E-mail with both the firewall set to normal protection/operation and AVG disabled. That works just fine.
Is there perhaps a certain AVG-executable which I should manually allow access to the Internet?
Best regards,
Robert.
I received a reply form the programmer of TinyWall after all.
He suggestes to disable a "web proxy component" as that should usually the case with these kind of problems. Does that ring a bell with you?
Dear people,
Unfortunately none of the suggested possible solutions, including switching from POP3 to IMAP, solved the issue.
I myself strongly suspect that it has to do with a certain modification in AVG with respect to the (former) version that DID work normally, perhaps the synchronisation between my E-mail client and AVG as you mentioned to me.
Could you have a look at that at one time? In my humble layman's opinion it is the only solution that WILL work.
Both options work and I've contacted the programmer of TinyWall 6 days ago about the problem, but haven't received a reply from him.
Could you please give me a list of AVG-executables which I should allow access to the Internet? I think that's the only remaining option.
After installing the most recent version of AVG AntiVirus Free (18.6.3066) my E-mailclient (Mozilla Thunderbird) isn't able to retrieve any mail without setting the firewall (TinyWall) to "Allow (all!) outgoing" anymore.
Is this a known issue and is there a solution and/or setting in AVG to solve that? FYI: I use Windows 8.1 and wasn't able for one reason or another to submit this question to you via your webform. I filled in all required fields, but it kept notifying me to yet do so.
Robert de Wolf.
Okay, Robert. Let's check this with two situations.
1. Please enable that firewall and disable AVG to check if you could send/ receive emails.
2. Now disable Firewall, enable AVG and send/ receive email to check it.
If first scenario works, open AVG Antivirus -> Menu -> Settings -> General -> Exceptions -> add email client to the exception list.
For second instance, I would recommend you to contact TinyWall support for further assistance.
Robert,
I really appreciate your effort in trying to resolve this issue. We had sent you an email on 25 October, 2018, we request you to reply that email so that we will escalate your case to our senior team for the further analysis.
I'm not using any AVG-firewall. As mentioned before I'm running TinyWall, which is a small program that acts as a GUI for the Windows Firewall.
Next to that I use AVG AntiVirus Free (100 % sure) in order to prevent any malware infecting my system.

Thank you for updating the status.
In this case, it is necessary to analyze the logs for which we have sent an email.
It has steps on how to collect and send us AVG log files.
If the email is not found in inbox do check in spam and junk folders.
Unfortunately it didn't.

Thank you for the information.
Please uninstall and reinstall this component on your computer and check if that fix the issue.

That did the trick. Actually probably completely logical, but disabling the E-mail Shield allowed me to retreive my mail with TinyWall running in normal mode.
I appreciate your efforts, Robert.
TinyWall will block some applications accessing Internet to keep you protected.
You already set your firewall to allow, I recommend you to have that setting itself.
However, you can add the exceptions for the applications which are blocking by firewall. It is not recommended to add all executable to the exception list.
