Hello Tjeerd,
We are sorry to know that. In this case, we suggest you to check if any Avast service is running in the background of your computer and make sure all the Avast files and folders removed from this locations:
C:\Programdata\Avast
C:\Program files (X86)\Avast
C;\Users\Computer name\Appdata\Local\Avast
Thank you
Thanks Karthy for prompt reply.
There are no avast services running in the background.
There afre no avast files in the folders you mention.
A search over all of c:\ for any avast files yields some files with long names in c:\Windows\WinSxS like x86_policy.14.0.avast.vc140.mfc_fcc99ee6193ebbca_14.0.24210.0_none_962753dde6e08635 and x86_policy.14.0.avast.vc140.crt_fcc99ee6193ebbca_14.0.24210.0_none_914751ebea0c5702 and a whole bunch more.
but I cannot delet these files, tells me "You need permission from TrusteddInstaller" whatever that means.
So yes, still stuck.
Greetings
tjeerd de wit
Did restart in SAFE mode, but the AVAST files still there are all in c:\windows\WinSxS and I cannot delete those as next screenshot shows,
Maybe you have a solution for that.
Otherwise I may consider to de-install AVG again and get AVAST up and running. getting a bit fed up with all this by now,…
AVAST was pre-installed on my new HP PC…
I uninstalled it and installed AVG Basic but AVG tells me AVAST it is still running.
Subsequently ran the avastclear utility in SAFE mode as instructed by Avast and restarted PC.
Still AVG tells me AVAST is running, so AVG cannot start.
What am I to do?

We are making no progress, what you suggest I already did and told so in the first message of the trail. I decided to let AVG go and donwloaded and installed AVAST, which came up fine.
So the problem is not solved, but the case closed due to lack of a solution.
Tjeerd,
We are sorry, please reboot your device in safe mode and refer this article to uninstall Avast: https://www.avast.com/faq.php?article=AVKB10#artTitle and remove the traces, then proceed with the installation of AVG in normal mode. Thank you! Please, feel free to let us know if you require any further assistance. Thank you.
Hello Tjeerd,
We are sorry to know that. Please do not worry, to fix this issue, we suggest you to right click on the Avast files and click on Properties and select "Security" tab. And make sure all the permissions are set for this folder, if not, please set permission and then try to delete the file.
Thank you
Hello Tjeerd,
Please provide us with the screenshot of the message from the AVG program so that we could analyze the issue more better. Please follow the instructions on the article http://avgclick.me/getscreenshot to create the screenshot.
Tjeerd, Also for info, just in case you're unaware, Avast & AVG are now under the same 'umbrella' (https://support.avg.com/answers?id=906b0000000LSo8AAG).
