Hi Enza,
We're glad to look into this & help you.
Please let us know the version of AVG installed on your computer (Open AVG - Menu - About).
Meanwhile try repairing AVG program once, as this isn't the usual behavior of AVG.
Hi Dinesh,
Thank you for your quick response. I repaired the AVG program as you suggested and it seemed to work for a while, but after shutting down and restarting my computer, I'm faced with the same problem. I get a pop-up message saying that my pop mail connection was reset. If I turn the shield off and then back on again, it seems to work, at least temporarily. In any case, my AVG Software Version is 20.6.3135 (build 20.6.5495.588) and the U.I. Version is 1.0.547. Thanks for looking into this!
For the last couple of weeks, AVG free has been blocking incoming e-mails from Thunderbird, specifically Yahoo mail. The only way to get around it is to disable the AVG e-mail shield. Has anyone else encountered this problem? Are the technical team aware add working on a fix? Thanks for any help or comments.
Thank you for updating the status, Enza.
We request you to keep monitoring the status and if the issue recurs, please write back to us.
We'll check and offer you further assistance. Thank you for understanding.

The "repair" seems to have made a difference after all as I did not encounter the problem today so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it did the trick.
Thank you for all your help and suggesting the Repair solution, which I did not know even existed! I will keep it in mind for any future bugs.
Enza, sorry to hear that the issue recurred.
Are you able to access the emails when AVG is disabled now? I'd request you to reinstall AVG and let us know if you need any further assistance.
