Hello Alison,
I understand how difficult this is for you. Please follow the steps from this link http://support.avg.com/SupportArticleView?urlname=Download-and-install-AVG-AntiVirus-Internet-Security-or-Premium-Security and reactivate AVG free to AVG Internet Security in your computer. Once you activate AVG ro pro version, check if you are able to use broadband dongle in your computer.

Okay, sit down and put your feet up, because this one's complicated ...
I have been suffering persistent conflicts between Malwarebytes Premium and AVG Internet Security for weeks on my Windows XP PC. I've reinstalled both, although MWB is currently uninstalled. AVG-IS, as I've complained elsewhere, keeps switching between IS and AVG Free, seemingly at will. It was stuck on AVG Free at the end of last week (I've been on holiday most of this week), but at the beginning of this week when I tried to connect it to the internet via my mobile broadband dongle (the only option here), the dongle wouldn't connect. I've just tried again today, having reinstalled the dongle software, and it's still not connecting, but this time AVG did actually admit that it had blocked the dongle from connecting. (It works fine on my other two computers, so it's not the dongle that's at fault.)
So, to sum it up, I'm in a situation where, as far as I can see, I'm not going to be able to connect to the internet with AVG Free installed. That in turn means that I don't think I can persuade it to switch back to AVG-IS, which might solve the problem (it seemed to be fine when IS was in operation). AVG in their wisdom have got rid of the "Update from directory" option, so it's not as if I can download the updates elsewhere and then transfer them over in the hope that that will fix it.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I can do, please? Otherwise, when I get in on Monday I'm going to uninstall AVG and install something else. This is my work computer, and I cannot afford to be crippled any longer by being unable to access my emails/get online.
