Hello Mike,
Please be informed that Eicar file will be detected by AVG (or any antivirus) only after you run the file.
I installed AVG last night on an old Vista PC, and went to use the EICAR test virus to check how well AVG worked. I was able to use notepad to paste the test virus content, and save the file as eicar.com without issue at first. Not sure if this would affect things (IT SHOULDN'T!), but the PC was running pretty slowly due to other uninstall processes (old Kaspersky Secure Connection uninstall).
I was able to run the COM file and see the test message over 10 times.
It seemed to take AVG a minute or two before it saw the test virus and quarantined the file. I was able to repeat this process several times too. This makes be greatly concerned that AVG won't catch a virus before it is executed on the PC.
Why would it let me execute the COM file before being quarantined?
Hello Mike,

Hello Mike,
AVG can detect threats such as keyloggers. and it works well alongside other antivirus programs. In addition, it is designed to recognize and block ransomware threats. Yes, AVG Internet Security can find the viruses before the it's executable/download. If you have installed AVG Internet Security and it is active on your computer then your computer is protected from all types of malware. AVG has a passive mode, which means it can run as a backup antivirus program and doesn’t prompt you to remove the virus blocker you already have installed on your device. It automatically knows when it is the secondary mode of security as well as when it needs to step up and perform a lead role.
Best regards,
Alok.
