Hello Tony,
We are here to help you.
The AVG Antivirus disabled issues might be because of AVG Antivirus Free virus definition update failed due to internet connection/windows updates/third party security program.
You might have received message saying AVG update failed/exclamation mark on system tray AVG icon.
You can open AVG Antivirus free on your desktop, and click the gear icon next to Scan Computer > Select Schedule Scan> report files to check the Schedule Scan reports.
However, could you share a screenshot of the AVG Antivirus free user interface to proceed further?
You can post the screenshot here on your topic. Click on 'Answer' & then click on the 'Image' [mountain symbol] & follow the instructions.
Regards,
Alok.

Why does AVG Free disable itself - or is caused to be disabled? I don't find out until I open AVG. No warning message appears so it seems AVG Free is not a satisfactory anti-virus. In addition there is still no record appearing of scheduled scan has been carried out. What's going on?
Thanks for that clarification. At the moment all is working - including "Last Scan" but maybe that's because I carried out a manual scan. I'll send the screen shot next time it appears, but basically the interface says "Protection is diabled" and a button is avialable to "Fix Now" - which it weems to do. Meanwhile and hoping I dont have to send you further stuff - thanks.
