I've had the avg free app for a long time but about five or so days ago it stopped updating with a message that it could not connect to the server.

I deleted the app and have been trying to reinstaall from a fresh download but that fails everytime with a message of Virus definitions download has failed! forbidden

To the best of my knowledge no settings in security or elsewhere have been changed so can anyone advise me as to what is happening, why and how to overcome it?

I'mm running macOS Sierra v10.12.5 (16F73) on a 2009 quad-core i7 iMac with 16GB RAM.

Thanks in advance.

Thanks.

The message I got during attempting to update (couldn't connect to server or somesuch wording) has gone and I cannot reporduce it as I deleted the avg app in my effort to get it working - I assumed that a clean install would cure most ills.

The error I get during reinatallation is this …

Failure during install

Yes, I am able to view the screenshot. Thank you for attaching it.
In this case, I request you to collect and send us the AVG log files for which I have sent the email instructions on where to find the log files.
If the email is not present in the inbox, do check it on spam and junk folders once.
