AVG Free Installation Problem

Hi Darryl,

We're glad to look into this & help you.
From your description, it seems that there are few network interruptions & the program is unable to communicate with our server.
In this regard, would you be so kind to change the network connectivity such as wired or another network to check if it helps?

Trying to install AVG on Mac running Catalina.  Installation problem occurs when virus definitions are to be downloaded.  Error message "cannot connect to server" occurs which results in the need to terminate the installation.

I do use a vpn but tried without it before. Tried again with same negative result.  Currently not using other antivirus programs.
Thing I do not understand is that I downloaded Avast antivirus about a moth ago replacing AVG antivirus with no problems.  The Avast program downloaded and installed with no problems but I decided to go bace to AVG.  Now I cannot download and install either Avast or AVG getting the same "virus download problem". My system has not changed from the previous Avast or AVG downloads.

Not a problem, Darryl.
Is it possible for you to use a VPN application on your Mac?
If yes, please turn it off and check the status with AVG Antivirus.
We would also like to know whether you have any third party antivirus installed on your Mac.

Hi,

Sorry for the delay.  Using another wireless network or a wireless connection (ethernet) did not solve the problem.  Same response after trying to start the install.  As I have used both avg and avast in the recent pass, is it possible there is a virus definition located somewhere on the computer which is confusing the install process? If so, where would the file(s) be located?

Darryl

There is a possibility for the traces of Avast files to block the installation process of AVG, Darryl. Your Mac might have considered it as a conflict.
In this regard, you may need to check for the traces of Avast files & clear them before proceeding to install AVG.
As our expertise are limited to AVG, would you be so kind to check for Avast files on your MAC & remove them. For further assistance regarding the location of Avast files, where it could reside needs to checked with Avast support. Thank you for your understanding in advance!
