AVG FREE keeps asking 'restart needed' computer not protected

hi all,
i have Win XP SP 3 with AVG FREE it keeps asking 'restart needed' computer not protected and is orange. is this expected? I have ascreenshot of this if required. A restart ends up the same outcome.

i was in middle of scanand then did a reboot. all has come good now so didn't need to do the last srep via add/remove.

ok did that. instaled Zen but protection free is NOT protected, selected it and in new window cliked fix ow but after much work still has protection free is NOT protected. however, the restart needed has gone.

Please run the  AVG remover tool : http://aa-download.avg.com/filedir/util/AVG_Remover.exe to completely uninstall your previous installation of AVG program from your PC. Once uninstalled download the installation file using the link : http://www.avg.com/us-en/download to reinstall your AVG program. Please feel free to contact us for further assistance.
