It could be possible that the latest updated have failed to install completely or the connection with update server was interrupted. I would suggest you to uninstall (run AVG clear tool mentioned in the article) the current version and reinstall AVG to resolve the issue.

You'll find that there are others too who want to find out what's going on. There is a propsed solution on the first replies, but the solution didn't work for me, so I'm still waiting too.

I have unstalled AVG Free using the remover and cleaner and successfully reinstalled - and the virus definitions are showing they were last updated 3 hours ago.
