Have you uninstalled AVG using its clear tool? If not, refer this article: http://support.avg.com/SupportArticleView?urlname=How-to-troubleshoot-issues-after-upgrade-to-the-latest-AVG-antivirus-product to run AVG Clear and Remover tool which removes the traces of AVG completely. Note: Run AVG Clear tool first.

After cancelling my AVG Internet Security subscription, the program is supposed to "revert to free". It wasn't performing and kept asking me to renew or upgrade, so i uninstalled the program. Now, I'm faced with TWO VERY IRRITATING PROBLEMS
After uninstalling the AVG Internet Security, I downloaded the AVG Antivirus Free (I've been utilizing this since it first was available almost 10 years ago!). But now, it keeps requiring a reboot and it's beginning to get irritating. As I am typing this, the darn "Internet Security" pop-up popped up again!

The issue might be because of old/previous AVG Internet Security traces. In this case, I request you to remove AVG completely along with any previous traces using the AVG clear tool/AVG Remover tool and then do a fresh installation of AVG Free Antivirus. This will ensure that none of the previous traces of AVG are left on your computer and you have an updated version.
Please follow the instruction (http://support.avg.com/SupportArticleView?urlname=How-to-troubleshoot-issues-after-upgrade-to-the-latest-AVG-antivirus-product) to run AVG Remover tool and AVG Clear tool.
After the computer reboots, you can follow the instruction to download/install AVG Free Antivirus.
