AVG free repeatedly asks to restart computer

It worked!  Your reply reminded me that I had tried using the repair option in Control Panel to no avail. I had not tried a straight uninstall/reinstall.  Apparently that may not have worked anyway.  Thank you for the help.

Hello Sheryl,

I understand this must be upsetting. I apologize for the inconvenience. Please download and run AVG Clear tool: https://share.avg.com/steam/PSP/AVG2017/AVG_Clear.exe . This tool will help with removing antivirus component of AVG 2017 and its traces. Open tool User Account control - click "Yes" Windows safe mode - click "No" (we cannot recommend use the tool in safe mode, because there is a problem with compability) Choose installed version (AVG Free, AVG Internet Security) Click "Uninstall" Click "Restart computer".

After the restart, please use the below offline installer link to install AVG Antivirus free in your computer.

Note: Before starting the installation, please select "Basic protection" to install AVG Free.

Over a year later and I have this problem...what gives?

...and I pay for my AVG, it's not the free version.

What the fix for this?

What is going on with AVG wanting to restart over and over?  This has been happening since July 7 when I returned from 2 weeks off and my computer did a lot of updates.  I restart my computer then after a few minutes there's the message again.  I recently received the latest Windows 10 update but it didn't make a difference.  I have quit restarting and now just 'postpone until tomorrow'.

I first searched for this July 10 and tried again today.  All I find are very old posts.  One said to change my setting to update on next reboot but my Update settings are greyed out... because it wants to restart!  Any ideas?
