It didn't work with turning AVG off either, but in that case I didn't get the malicious notification. I guess it could be related to the publisher, Elsevier (sciencedirect), in that case, as they just recently didn't manage to reach an agreement with Swedish universities regarding subscription.

We can certainly take a look into this. May I know if you're receiving any threat detection pop up from AVG Antivirus free when you try to download pdf?
If yes, then please share a screenshot of the threat detection with "see details" page to proceed further?

I also request you to disable AVG protection and check if the issue is resolved? Right click on AVG system tray icon and toggle the On/Off slider to disable AVG protection.

Hi,
AVG stops Mendeley reference software from downloading pdf-s to the desktop app stating they are malicious. What can I do to stop this from happening?

Meanwhile I got a response from Mendeley that they are aware of this specific problem and are dealing with it. They will publish it in social media when they have fixed the issue.

I tried downloading the pdf from another publisher/web page with Mendeley and it worked.
