Dave, Regarding the use of Windows Defender with AVG which Windows version are you actually using?.
AVG Guru
THIS IS NONESENSE!
I CHECKED IF IT WAS INSTALLED LIKE IT SHOULD BE, IT WAS NOT!!!
I HAD TO DOWNLOAD IT AGAIN (AVG ANTIVIRUS FREE VERSION 17.7.3032) BUT THIS VERSION DOES NOT DO WHAT IT USED TO DO.
IT USED TO CHECK 1: THE REGISTRY
2: JUNK FILES
3: DEFRAG (IF IT NEEDED TO DEFRAG)
4: INVALID SHORTCUTS
THIS NEW VERSION DOES NOT CHECK ANY OF THESE AREAS UNLESS YOU PAY!
ALSO, THE FREE LICENSE NUMBER DOES NOT WORK WHEN I TRIED TO ENTER IT.
A VERY POOR EXPLANATION ON YOUR PART. I CANT SHOW YOU A SCREENSHOT OF THE "GROUP POLICY ERROR" SINCE I RE-INSTALLED AVG FREE.
Hi Dave,
I can understand how upset you must be.
Please check if you have AVG Anti Virus Free in the list of installed Programs on your computer.
To check, please follow the steps mentioned below:
1. Go to Start -> Control Panel.
Note: Click Settings first if Control Panel is not available in the Start menu.
2. Open (Programs) -> Programs and Features, or Add or Remove Programs.
3. Check for AVG in the list of programs.
Also, please provide me a screenshot of the error message regarding "Blocked Group Policy".
Here is a link with the steps to create a screenshot: http://avgclick.me/getscreenshot .
You can post the screenshot here in your topic. Click on 'Answer' & then click on the 'Image' [mountain symbol] & follow the instructions.
I have been using AVG Free for 2 years plus, when suddenly today 11/Oct/17 at 01:30 it stopped working. Now I have a windows defender problem "Blocked Group Policy" (whatever that is??) that I can't resolve. AVG Free has also disappeared from the task bar.
Can someone advise me how to fix this AVG Free problem?
YOU UNDERSTAND THE INCONVENIENCE, REALLY, I THINK NOT.
2 YEARS OF FREE USE, THEN ALL OF A SUDDEN I HAVE TO PAY FOR ANY USEFUL COMPONENT TO AVG. NOT ACCEPTABLE AT ALL!!!
AN EMAIL WITH A NICE EXPLANATION OF "YOU HAVE TO PAY NOW TO USE THIS PROGRAM", WOULD HAVE HELPED.
I AM NOT HAPPY ABOUT THIS, AS YOU CAN TELL.

Hello Dave,
I understand the inconvenience. Please be informed that the registry scan, defragmentation scans, Invalid Shortcuts, and Junk Files are included in the older version of AVG free as a part of promoting AVG PC TuneUp. In the new version, all these have been removed. Also, the license number for AVG free is no longer in use. If you want to run the fix performance scan, you can install AVG PC TuneUp trial version on your computer.
Alan Binch,
I use Windows 7.
The Windows Defender error appeared during the AVG Free problem that happened by itself. Since I had to download and re-install AVG Free, the problem sorted itself out. Don't ask me how or why it did this because I don't know. I can only assume some sort of AVG update caused this problem.
