I am having same problem. How to solve this?

Hello Karen and Michael,
I am glad to know that your issue is resolved.
I appreciate your efforts in this matter.
Feel free to contact us if you need any assistance with AVG.
Have a nice day!

Marie,
I am sorry for the inconvenience caused. This is a known issue and our developers are working on a fix.

When trying to update AVG Free today, it says "Error: HTTP server returned error."

I already repaired the program. I also very recently uninstalled/cleaned AVG and reinstalled.

Before today I was able to update without issue.

Also, where are the definitions update downloads on the AVG Free website? It would be nice to at least manually download and install them while this problem is going on.

I am having same problem. How to solve this?

Issue is solved on my computer… Thanks to the AVG team !

I am getting the same error when trying to update. My Virus update has been down over a day now. All I have seen is the same canned response, ARE MY COMPUTERS SAFE?

I am having the same issue with Internet Security. It seems to be the entire update server for all of AVG is having issues. It is good to know that the team is working to fix it. I was starting to freak out until I finally found others were having the same issue. I know that you all are busy, but please fix this as soon as possible.

Hello Nicolaas,

Thank you for the screenshot, let's work together to fix it.

Please change DNS server address to public DNS in Windows and check if that fix the issue.

(1) Right click on network icon in the taskbar and click "Open Network and Sharing Center".

(2) Click "Change adapter settings".

(3) Select the active/ connected network adapter and right click and select "Properties".

(4) Select "Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)" and click properties and then select "Use the following DNS server address". (By default "obtain DNS server address automatically" is selected). When you select "Use the following DNS server address", you can use the DNS address you want. Popular public DNS addresses are google DNS (8.8.8.8 or 8.8.4.4),

After changing the DNS settings, click ok in the TCP/IP properties wizard.

Once you change this settings, check if you are able to update AVG.

Thank goodness the problem has sorted itself out.  When I put my computer on (15 June) it shows that the virus definaitions were updated.  I worked out the time when this happened and I guess it would have been round about 1700 5pm British time.  I have been that worried that I feared putting my computer on this morning in case the problem had not be rectified.

Hello Cheryl,
I'm sorry about the error, we have already reported AVG Virus definition update failed error "HTTP server returned error" to our concern team, they are working on this and the issue will get fixed as quickly and efficiently as possible, please be patient.

Hello Tony,
Yes please wait, we will fix this issue as soon as possible.
Best regards,
Alok.

I am having the same issue but I PAID for my AVG. called the 1-844 number and they told me that it was a problem with my computer and that they would be happy to fix it for me but wanted $119 to do it.  Even after pointing this page out to them they still insisted that it was a problem with my computer and had nothing to do with AVG. I am glad that I found this page, at least I know that it isn't my computer. I hope that they do get this fixed quickly.

Same here. I get fault number 10096, and no way to update via internet.
What should we do?
Maybe is time voor AVAST???
I'll give it a few more days but no more…
