I've tried that many times and just tried again - no help - same problem
also, don't know if it's relevant but at one point I had the AVG tuneup program installed but I've uninstalled it.

Hello Jerry. Sorry to hear that. May I know which AVG program you are facing the issue?
I've been getting the error in the subject for about week now. I've tried a bunch of things including reinstalling (running AVG_remover.exe first), deleting temporary update files and the regfix - not sure what else to try?
rebooted three times then I installed avg free from the above link and when it finished, it tried to update and I got the same error - update failed a .bin file is missing.
oh and there was no folder "AVG Remover" in the directory where the remover executable was downloaded to but there were three log files which I deleted.
