AVG Free update May 18 - Missing functions

I have right clicked the AVG icon in the System tray in the taskbar and there is no option to disable the AVG Antivirus program, either for a specific period e.g. 10 minutes or until restart, as there used to be in the previous versions. The only options are to Open either AVG or AntiVirus Free or to Scan the computer.  The ability to suspend antivirus protection for a limited period was very useful for problem solving.  Likewise the ability to pause a scan is useful and is a feature available in many other antivirus software.
My overall impression of this latest update is that AVG antivirus has regressed and changed from a useful tool to a marketing exercise.  Is the idea to get users to switch to another product e.g. Avast?

Graeme,

We understand your concern, no need to worry, you can disable your AVG program from the task bar.

Right click on AVG icon under System tray, you will have the option to disable it. Else, open AVG Zen -> Antivirus Free -> Menu-> Settings -> Components -> you can disable AVG by each components.

Due to recent update with AVG 2017, these changes were made. If you have a specific experience with AVG products that you would like to share with us, we would appreciate hearing about it (link removed).

The latest update/ upgrade has omitted some helpful functions from the interface. The button to disable AVG for a certain period of time is missing. It was really helpful if you wanted to run alternate scanning software to verify the integrity of a file. The 'resume scan' function is also gone. So basically, if you interrupt a scan, you now have to start all over again - That's really frustrating and counter productive. Unless they've been buried in the interface and I've not found them. Anyone see them?
