You must have not used AVG Clear tool which is used for removing traces of latest 2017 version of AVG.
Please run both the removal tools as mentioned in this article: https://support.avg.com/SupportArticleView?l=en&urlName=How-to-troubleshoot-issues-after-upgrade-to-the-latest-AVG-antivirus-product to remove traces of AVG.
NOTE: If no AVG program found for removal then click on "Run Anyway" to proceed with the removal.

been having problems for 6 months with antivirus. it first started with my antivirus not updating. uninstalled and tried to reinstall. has failed to reinstall the last 4 or 5 attempts. i have used avg removal and avg access reset. followed the guide that has been posted over and over again. keeps throwing up errors mainly time out. last on was 0xA0010004
i think its a bit slack that there are some many issues with just a simple install that looks to be the same thing for the last 18 months
i have been an avg user for the last 10 years. never been so disappointed
