AVG Freezes Computer

Hi Jason,
I apologize to hear about the inconvenience caused. I would also like to appreciate your efforts to resolve the issue so far. Please open AVG Internet Security, click on Menu and select Components. Disable each component listed and observe the behavior for 5 to 10 minutes. If you had run maintenance scan using AVG PC TuneUp, please restore those changes and check if that resolves the issue.
Please follow the instructions below to restore the changes made by the AVG PC TuneUp program :
1. Open AVG PC TuneUp program.
2. Click on the Rescue Center on the right bottom corner.
3. Click on Undo Changes.
4. Select and restore the changes made by the AVG PC TuneUp program.

Hello,

I forgot to mention one other thing, I uninstalled AVG PC TuneUp Program as part of my troubleshooting steps originally.  The issue still occured with the AVG PC TuneUp program uninstalled.  I don't think that this is the issue.  I have gone ahead and disabled all the Components with AVG Internet Security.  I will be doing some testing today to see if anything breaks.

The issue I don't understand is why it kills the NIC card once it fails.  Not sure if this is driver specific or if I can try to disable AVG Firewall NDIS6 Helper within the Network Adapter settings?

Ever since I started using AVG Ultimate, my computer freezes almost every time when I try to use the Internet.  All I am doing is going to simple News Website.  I have uninstalled AVG and perform the same function and my computer works fine for a week.  I install AVG Ultimate again and the issues return.  I have already contacted AVG Support and they remoted into my computer and did a general clean up of my Windows Temp folders and removed Temporary Internet Files.  The computer works fine for a few days and then the entire computer freezes again.

When the computer freezes it freezes explorer.exe and doesn't allow me to open Task Manager.  Usually the first thing that happens is Google Chrome freezes and then nothing works.  The only way to fix this issue is to hold the power button down until the computer turns off.

I am 100% sure that this is AVG issue based on my troubleshooting.  This issue didn't occur before AVG and doesn't happen when AVG is uninstalled.  Can you please explain what components I should try to disable to narrow down this issue, as this is extremely annoying.  I am about to uninstall AVG for good if I can't fix this issue or if AVG doesn't provide a fix.

Hi Jason,

I completely understand your concern. I would request you to disable the Online shield component (AVG>Menu>Settings>Component) first and check if the Internet is working fine. Need not to change the network adapter settings.  I also suggest you to follow the instructions to change the Firewall settings : Open AVG Zen -> Internet Security -> Click on Menu in the top right corner -> Settings -> Components -> Firewall -> Customize -> Network Profiles -> Change the networks from Public to Private.

If the issue fixes after disabling the Online Shield, please uninstall and reinstall that component alone.

Hello,

Hello,

The issue is still reoccuring even when the Online Shield if off.  I have tried to turn off all the components and my system works fine the way it is.  I can use it for hours and the issues is fine.  When I turn on all the components my computer will freeze when trying to use Google Chrome.  For instantance trying to login to AVG Website frooze Google Chrome and then Froze the entire computer where the NIC card was no longer working.  Sounds like to me one or more of the components is causing this issue and I would prefer not to go one component at a time to troubleshoot which component is causing the issue as it could be multiple components as oppose to one component.  I need further advance troubleshooting on this issue as I have seen that other people are reporting the same issue within the community page.  Can I please send you my log files for your technitions to look at? I can't waste anymore time trying to troubleshoot this issue.  The original case (Case # 04772956) I opened with AVG where someone took remote control over my computer to fix the issue didn't fix the issue.  Please review this case for any details you might need.  I am more than happy to try other solutions.  But I believe this issue might be a bug within AVG.  I am using Windows 7 Ultimate with SP1 and all of the latest Windows Updates.   Please let me know if there are any other questions or how can I send my AVG log files to you.  Thanks

Hello,

I have disabled The Online Shield Component only and changed my Firewall Setting.  The picture below: Network Connection was already set to Private.  I changed the other two to Private as well.  Not sure if that is going to do anything?  I will let you know how I make out.
