I understand the inconvenience.
If the AVG protection is disabled then it should say as turned off on the interface.
Please perform repair of AVG Internet Security program as mentioned in this article: http://avgread.me/1BVxDSY.
Turn off AVG protection temporarily as mentioned in this article: http://support.avg.com/SupportArticleView?urlname=How-to-use-Passive-Mode and check whether the dashboard shows that protection is turned off.
Thank you for the information, however, the point is that AVG failed to carry out its primary purpose - to protect. It is no good saying to your customers 'perform repair of AVG' and it is even more silly to suggest that it is 'inconvenient'. The fact is your software led me to believe I was protected when I clearly was not. Anything could have happened - I use online banking etc. Malware access to my bank accounts would be more than 'inconvenient' !!!
You need to modify your software so that it has a heartbeat monitor. Until then I will no longer be using your product as it is basiically unsafe to use.
Problem with AVG
If I go to the 'Show Hidden Icons' and right-click on AVG icon and turn off AVG then when I go to the main AVG console it shows all parameters in Green. If I go to the Menu > Settings > Components screen then it shows all protection off.
This means I can accidently cancel protection and AVG does not advise me of this. This action is unacceptable.
