Hi there
Has anyone else been railroaded into getting an AVG go total Care package that they don't need. This is the story…
My mother is 72 and uses her PC for word processing, checking email and very little internet browsing. The PC she uses is not high spec.
Yesterday she had a strange icon appear on her desktop and concerned it was a virus she tried to upgrade her AVG protection to the Secure VPN package. She paid for the new package but then had difficulty activating it so called the helpline. To cut a long story short the tech department remotely accessed her PC and told her that she needed to purchase the AVG GO Total Care package so that they could fix her PC to allow the new AVG Secure VPN to activate. This package cost £160 and she had already paid £57 for the protection package. My mother is elderly and did not understand what she was paying for and why she needed to purchase it but was told that she could lose everything on her PC because of a virus that they had found. Because she was confused and frightened she made the payment and allowed the work to be done.
After explaining to me what had happened we have requested a refund but found the AVG representative we spoke to very unhelpful and have been told to expect a call in the next 24 to 48 hours. My mother is extremely upset about this whole experience and has been left feeling like she has been taken advantage of. I really feel that she has been mis-sold a service that she does not need.
Does anyone have any advice on what to do next?
Thanks in advance
Hello, Stephanie.
I certainly understand this must be upsetting. Please note that AVG Go total care is a different channel of support and we do not handle queries related to it on this support page. I would request you to call 0800-085-4139 and select option 2 on the IVR to speak to them and request a refund.
