I apologize for the inconvenience this may have caused. Please follow the steps provided below to resolve the issue.
Open the AVG management console and click Internet Security.
Go to Settings ▸ Ransomware Protection.
Select the Blocked/Allowed apps tab.
Remove any app that is related to MS Office in Blocked apps list and add it to Allowed apps list.

Remove any app that is related to MS Office in Blocked apps list and add it to Allowed apps list.
All documents that are Microsoft Office programs are read only now that AVG has protected the files from opening normally. I can not save or save as any of them. If I create a new document I can not save it because there is an existing file with the same name in that folder that is read only. I came up with goofy names for the file and magically there was an existing file with that name.
I checked the properties of the files and the "read only" box is not checked. But when I open the file it is read only.
This happened after a pop-up from AVG claimed they were protecting me from malware. HA! I think AVG is the malware!
