AVG has disabled control of the enhanced firewall

Now that I've paid this year's subscription, AVG is back to their usual routine, installing components without the users knowledge and not allowing you to disable/remove it. They have something now that blocks unwanted AVG remote connections, definitely not what I want, and it's interfering with my connections in and out. Before AVG didn't seem to want their firewall to function properly so I finally removed it because currently the windows firewall alone is definitely better, but they're forcing their way in again interfering with network traffic. AVG engineers, please remove it because your trial and error experiments is screwing our systems.

Robert I agree. The fact is I don't have the time to play around with it. This Security Software is supposed to help customers but not add on a load of unnecessary work so I'm hoping AVG engineers will fix it on future updates.

YIKES!  Just started having Firewall/VPN(non avg) issues.  This current version is very flawed.  With my VPN turned ON, I get continuoulsy flooded
User-added image
with these popups…they all have been priorly allowed but they keep looping…vpn unusable due to the flood.  After vpn shut OFF popups continue for unspecified amount of time.  This forum has many posts with this version about the firewall and vpns.  Its broke big time.  With AVG you always run a HIGH RISK of inducing bugs and errors into your system with every update.  There is NO Quality Control of this product before an update is released.

Hello Aloua and Robert. Thank you for your patience, and I apologize for the delayed response. My name is Shawn, and I am writing to you on behalf of the AVG Senior Support team.

I give credit, where credit is owed, that this thread gained some traction. Regrettably, the experience you shared, was not the intended we wanted for you to have had. And for that, I apologize.

As a recap, thereafter the recent update of AVG Antivirus to version 20.2, there was a disruption with the firewall component of AVG, reported to us by a number of our users. This concern was shared with our development team, and has since been resolved through a patch update.

Also referenced in this thread is mention of your VPN being intermittently disrupted. I am hopeful, that this is a resolved issue, specific to the firewall patched update.

I trust this response helps clarify your concerns. Regards, Shawn

AVG is cutting off my internet connection randomly. What's worse, it tries to control my VPN connections by turning them off. Great! My Solaris, MacOS and Linux machines are running fine with VPN so I removed AVG from my Windows machine and everything worked OK. I just wanted AVG to do what it's supposed to do. Do the virus scanning and allow me to customize the firewall. How hard is that?
Also Disabling Enhanced Firewall or some other AVG components doesn't work anymore so the only way to know if AVG is causing the problem is to uninstall AVG altogether and check. AVG is costing customers hours of uneccessary troubleshooting. AVG shouldn't be the cause of problems but a solutions.

Why has this happened on one of my pc's protected and not the other after both were updated at same time?

Here's something new. I could never understand why everytime I'd browse Stan or Netflix my computer would freeze. I tried everything and the problem wouldn't go away. This problem only went away recently after I disabled the Enhanced Firewall. Allowing AVG to auto select which program to allow didn't solve it. I think AVG wants us to remove this component as they can't maintain it anymore.

Our pleasure, Aloua. Please add 'Enhanced firewall' component to your AVG programs & apply the patches to them.
To do so : Click on refresh icon beside virus definitions in AVG Internet Security's homepage & restart the computer after successful update & let us know the outcome.

Aloua Tapueluelu :

Where, within the interface, can I find this new module?  Whats its location and name?  Can you post a screenshot?  This is distubing that AVG would do this.  Thats why I don't like updating because each time AVG has added some garbage tricks and schemes that are not needed. NOBODY should capture an users passwords!!!

I am using Software Version:  20.1.3112 (build 20.1.5069.562) and there
is a  message to update to v20.1.3112-build 20.1.4069.562 but I won't.

>>> Scroll down to the "Reset All Settings" section and click the "Reset To Default" option.
I have done that before and it didn't remove the "Password Protection" malware that was installed by AVG updates and without client request. I have reinstalled AVG 3 times and but AVG updates kept reinstalling the malware. Why do we have to fix problems created by AVG themselves?

AVG has disabled control of the enhanced firewall and installed a module to capture and store your internet passwords. AVG engineers have just decided to do this without customer approval. Why?

Our pleasure, Aloua. Please add 'Enhanced firewall' component to your AVG programs & apply the patches to them.

We apologize for the inconvenience caused,  Aloua
AVG has updated recently to improve it's purpose and they have added new feature for the customer's benefit.
Remote Connection Security is one of them.
You are welcome to share the feedback, I will make sure that it has reached our developers.

We understand your concern, Robert.

With the help of Remote connection you will get stronger protection against hackers. This new feature will let you choose who can remotely access your computer and block the rest.

Thank you for understanding.

I've now installed AVG without the Enhanced Firewall and my internet connection and VPN is working fine. It's a shame because this is something that AVG did better than most competitors.

Yeah, thats why I am always reluctant to do an update.  Ya never know what may happen.  Well good luck and I guess, if you've tried all settings etc and the only way your vpn works is by uninstalling AVG, kind of points to the problem.  That would not sit right with me either.
