AVG have not posted any Virus definitions since 14 August 2018

I’m stuck on SP2 because I need to run some old software for now that will not run with a later service packs, so I can’t upgrade to latest AVG ver on my XP OS because of the SP3 requirement! shareit downloading (https://get-shareit.com)  vidmate 2014 (https://get-vidmateapk.com/vidmate-2014/)

Well here is my sscreenshot today… yesterday it was just the Computer that said it needed updating, and now today the Web has been added. I did try to update but as you can see from the screenshot, I was told it was up to date!

This is AVG 2015.0.6201
Virus Database Version: 4793/15883 (Tuesday, August 14, 2018)
This is the most up to date database that AVG has available online… and updating via the interface does not update anything either.

@Jack Beanstalk, there are many posts in the forum with this same issue, so we are not alone here. According to Vishnu Vardan (Avast), "We are aware of this issue and we have escalated it to our developers team to know the release of next update for the AVG Antivirus virus definitions.

Once we get the reply from them we will cascade it to you.

We would appreciate your patience until we get the response from the developers team."

So maybe eventually they will get around to figuring this out… I also read in another post that the warnings are to let us know there has not been an update in a week, so I am going to ignore them and see if AVG ever gets this figured out.

it's very strange and even embarassing for AVG !! 8 days without virus definition updates for ALL versions of AVGfree !!

maybe the AVG staff went on vacation last week tuesday … ;o)

but seriously, when can we expect new virus definitions? as mentioned through jack, i don't think AVG has stopped supporting all versions of AVGfree at the same time without any information.

Hello Karthikeyan,

Thank you for your answer. I have checked the windows 10 folder and all it contains is 7 text files from when I re-installed and ran a manual scan. The interface shows a further scan has taken place, however a report does not exist to confirm this. Does the system generate a report on every scan?

I have same problem with AVG 2015, it always stuck on "Update requed" since August, 14 update. But I have XP x64, so AVG 2015 is the latest version that supports my OS.

So, without any notice, older versions are no longer supported.  So they decided to no longer support our entire site.  We don't have the option of just running out an updating our control systems without evaluating the impact of the new software.  Real time systems don't have a lot of excess resources and the down time cost money.   What in the world would make AVG think if i have to re-evaluate the antivirus i use and test every machine and control system i would even think of using their "update"?  Time to move to another software package that maintains their contractual obligations.  Many of our systems can not be "migrated" to there new money maker.

AVG have not posted any Virus definitions since 14 August 2018 ?

Have AVG stopped supporting all these versions without notice all at the same time?

Looking at these versions below they were all last updated on 14 August.
Updates AVG Latest which is 2016
Updates AVG 2015
Updates AVG 2014
Updates AVG 2013

I update manually as my install just kept failing, so manual update has worked fine for me for a very long time.
Now AVG by not updating these files for manual download/update are causing a lot of problems!
I don't have the time to uninstall, use a clean tool then reinstall, I'll do it when I have time, not now.

Please offer a solution to the one AVG has broken? (no reinstall advice please)!
Please state where I can do a manual download of Virus definitions updated in the last few days etc Now 21 August 2018
Regards.

Hello All,
I had the same problem on the paid version, tried repair, no good, so then deleted avg and re-installed. You get a new interface but you lose things. One of the things you lose, which I use all the time, is the scan history. I logged on today to see if anybody knows where to find it in the new interface. So be aware, if you update, the new interface is different, but it at least updates.

@Avinash (Avast)
Thanx for the reply Avinash
But it's not that the AVG software is not living up to my expectations, it’s the fact that AVG seems to have deliberately or partly broken versions 2015, 1016 and the 2018 version I updated on
20 June 2018

You the support guys are now taking the flack for the mess I assume created by management at a high level who took the decision to effectively brick these versions!

I’m in the middle of moving, how do you think I have time to fix something with support or not when now I have my XP and windows 7 OS’s not working correctly?
Where do I find the time, I don’t even have time for these messages but I think it’s important that people know the truth or as much of it as I can expose.

IF AVG do not backtrack and re-enable manual updates I will stop using it and I hope many others follow my feeling on that point.
I will no longer be able to update my offline PC!
I will no longer be able to build a PC with up to date AVG definitions files before connecting to the Net!

If AVG don’t make a clear statement on the various issues either caused by intention or accident regarding the 14 August manual update, the disabling of auto update in 2015 and 2016 then I will stop using AVG in the near future.
As stated on this forum, manual updates were to stop with ver 2017, so AVG have gone back on that also without notice!

If I had manual update now I could spend all this wasted time on much more important things and upgrade later. I went to the trouble of upgrading in June on Win7 but now AVG have broken that also apparently.

@Alan Binch | AVG Guru
Hi Alan
Thanx for the reply

Well those older versions may indeed be finished but AVG has posted manual updates for older versions as late as July 2018!
So that will at least give people for whatever reason stuck on older versions time to migrate when they can upgrade their OS, service pack, old machines etc etc.
Version 9 and 2011,12 were updated 4 July, and 13, 14 and 15 were updated on 14 August.
So they might not be fully supported, but at least gives people a chance to upgrade without having no recent updates at all and then the need to move away from AVG altogether!
Just to stop updates for the .bin files stopping people manually updating is not a clever thing to do on AVG's part.

@Alan Binch | AVG Guru
Hi Alan
But apart from installing Avast and getting rid of AVG how is the update from Avast going to help me?
I can't see the .bin file in the download after extracting file prior to trying an install!!

Message from Karthikeyan (Avast)…
I am sorry for the confusion.
We have recently got an update that older versions of AVG like 2015 and 2016 versions will no longer receive any AVG updates.
You need to update these programs to the latest AVG version.
AVG Guru"
WOW this is huge, Where did that announcement come from and when? Link please?
Maybe AVG should have posted that directly into every thread to make sure everyone read it!
Why wasn’t this info posted on the AVG update page?
https://www.avg.com/en-gb/download-update

So AVG without any notice has now killed off AVG 2015 and AVG 2016 versions! Forcing everyone on these versions to remove and upgrade to the latest AVG software version, yes?
By doing so ending support without notice.
I can’t upgrade on XP!! I have to stick with SP2!
How long will support run for XP SP3 for other users?

So my guess that AVG stopping manual updates after 14 August 2018 and other paid users unable to update AVG 2015 like Pam's post on this thread was correct?

This shows complete disrespect for AVG users, and even less respect for its paid up users not using the free version!

What AVG has done with this way of doing things is break their software!
Must be more to this story.
Incorrect announcement perhaps!
So which is it, complete mess and no management, no planning, no notice about stopping support for 2015 and 2016 AVG versions and also no notice about stopping manual updates before 2017!
Or, AVG bricked these versions in some way with last update as they have done in the past and then took a very long time to come up with;
You need to update these programs to the latest AVG version.” !!!

Note to AVG; In any business, you would normally be in breach of contract for ending support to paid customers like this!!

People have other things going on in their life’s, they’re busy, they don’t have time to just drop what’s they’re doing and uninstall and reinstall software and possible risk problems arising. I’m in the process of moving and don’t have time for any extra aggravation or stress right now!!

What a complete farce.

Hello All,
We are providing support and updates for the AVG version 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018 (We no longer support 2014 and below version).
The website https://www.avg.com/de-de/download-update is not being maintained so please ignore the information from the Webpage.
Note: The virus definition should get updated in every 2-3 hours, if automatic updates is enabled. If not, we need log files to analyze the situation.

Jack,
I have sent you an email, please follow the email instruction to help us with the log files. This information will help us to analyze the situation and provide you with a solution.
Regards,
Alok.

Jason,

We'd like to inform that we stopped providing virus definitions for old versions. We still support old versions and recommend our users to upgrading it to latest version for better protection.

We would like to understand more about the situation. Let us know what happen when you are trying to upgrade, the name of software which blocks the migration and screenshot of error message if received.

I might consider running the diagnostic tool and send a log file off to AVG but only once I've had a chance to see what data is collected!!
It is a possibility that a previous update has messed up the 2015 installations on an unknown number of machines! This could be a one way street and now not fixable with a new update!!
But instead has to be sorted out one by one!! I have had this issue with installations in the distant past.

Separate issue perhaps, but I still think you having issues and can't auto-update past 14 Aug 2018 must be a related issue for that to happen right at the SAME time!
That and the fact AVG have already stated they no longer support manual updates from AVG 2017 onwards. https://support.avg.com/answers?id=906b0000000Dyz0AAC
That really doesn’t help at all in situations like this.

Annoyingly some 3rd party sites are listing manual updates available, but it's just that they're use to linking to the usual AVG download address and then stupidly sticking on the date when they last refreshed the link but not checking and listing the actual .bin file date which still stands at 14 August 2018 for the last manual update file AVG have posted for download.
I think that proves AVG never bothered announcing stopping of manual updates!

So in effect AVG have made their antivirus program obsolete if you want or in cases like mine have to conduct a manual update.
And if anyone now gets a fail with AVG now can't just manual update until they have time to spend messing around with it.
It’s also a very stupid way of working with Antivirus, if you build a new machine, get it Networked and need to download and install apps or other updates prior to getting Antivirus running!

Prior to 14 Aug I could install a brand new PC and have it right up to date before connecting to the internet. You can’t do that anymore with AVG.
That’s a dangerous situation to be in if you had a crash, had to reinstall apps and you don’t have up to date antivirus running before you start.

This was a long while ago but it shows how not just AVG but serious problems can arise with software updates, but this was a bad one.

I really don’t have to spend trying fix this like others I’m sure, so very soon may just have to jump ships to a different antivirus which is annoying as I do like AVG.

The version is 16.91.7688

You are fully protected . . . you are not fully protected

Hello John,

AVG 2017 and later version of AVG programs (Free & Paid) downloads virus definitions automatically and the option to install virus definitions manually has been discontinued.

We'd also like to inform that virus definitions on https://www.avg.com/en-us/download-update are no longer updated. If you are using a 2016 or older version of AVG program, we strongly recommend upgrading it to latest version for better protection.

Are you able to transfer your files without any issues when AVG 2018 is disabled?

If you would like, you can share the suggestions on Internet Security -> Menu -> About -> Submit feedback/ Product feedback. Our developers will check and work on it.

Hello,
The information "since 14 August no updates" is not true. The AVG virus definitions should get updated every day, if the automatic updates is enabled in the AVG version 2015 or above.
I have requested @Jack to provide the log files, once we receive the log files we will start analyzing the situation.
Your patience is much appreciated in this matter.
Regards,
Alok.
