Even after a clean boot into XP sp3, AVG install reports: avgsetupx.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close.  We are sorry for the inconvenience.

AVG restore access doesn't help.  What's next?

I downloaded the _1817.exe file and executed.  The installer ran just as before and generated the same error (new screenshot attached).

This time a DrWatson screen poped up and reported these two files were generated:
C:\DOCUME~1\Jones\LOCALS~1\Temp\WER57a5.dir00\drwtsn32.exe.mdmp
C:\DOCUME~1\Jones\LOCALS~1\Temp\WER57a5.dir00\appcompat.txt

Would you like to see those files?
