I did as you suggested and tried to reinstall.  The installation failed exactly as it did before with the same error message  and information.  What next?

We kindly request you to use the AVG Reset Access tool to repair any corrupted access rights to AVG files

Save all your work, close all documents and running programs.
Download the AVG Reset Access tool : http://download.avg.com/filedir/util/AVG_ResetAccess.exe .
Close all running programs.
Run the downloaded file, and then click Accept to confirm the license agreement.
Click Continue to apply the fix. Your computer will be restarted.

Tried to upgrade my AVG on an XPSP3 machine and installation fails.  Used AVG remover to no avail.

The windows error msg says "avgsetupx.exe encountered an error."  In looking at the error msg the data isError Signature
AppName: avgsetupx.exe 
AppVer: 1.143.2.51391
ModName: avgwtusetupx.dll
Mod Ver: 1.0.0.9
Offset: 0002cfd6

Anyone have any ideas how to fix this?
