Thanks for your help. Just after posting my question I found a program called AVG Remover elsewhere, ran it, then installed using Antivirus Free 1817 and it installed !! Thanks once again.

Keep getting error code 0xe001f98d on installation. Nothing else installing. Add / Remove Programs AVG program is not listed. Removed all traces (hopefully) of AVG in the registry. No other AV program running / installed, as have only ever used AVG. Restarted, reinstalled and the same error code.
I am using XP Pro SP3.
