AVG interferes with downloading updates

I regret the inconvenience caused. I would request you to reboot your computer in safe mode with networking http://support.avg.com/SupportArticleView?urlname=How-to-reboot-your-computer-into-Safe-Mode and then check if you are able access your computer.

I have all AVG products. I just had  a huge problem when Microsoft  tried to update my Windows 10 system on my laptop PC. In fact as it turned out AVG must have interfered with the downloading, because after 2.5 hours only 25% was completed and then the screen went black and I was unable to get the computer to return to life ! Microsoft was unable to fix this. How can I prevent this from happening again ? I can block Microsoft's updates, but that does not  help if these updates are important.
