Juanita,
It’s regrettable that this has happened, if I were you I would feel the same. We appreciate your efforts in trying to fix the issue. AVG version 17.9.3040 is compatible with latest windows update.
If you receive virus definitions are out of date issue, it's necessary to run AVG clear and remover to uninstall AVG and reinstall it to fix the issue. Mostly this issue will occur only when the update files gets corrupted.
We see that automatic renewal for your AVG Internet Security (1 computer) is already turned off and you won't be charged in future but you will receive a email notification regarding the renewal when it get expires. Thank you for choosing AVG, you are a valuable customer for us and we request you to reinstall your AVG paid version as a last try and check with the issue.

Hi,
I asked a couple of days ago about my PAID AVG Internet Security being compatible with the Meltdown patch on my new Windows 10 desktop, and was assured it was. As a matter of fact, Lukas and Karthikeyan with AVG assured me it was. NO, IT WAS NOT as of today, January 10th 2018. I have paid for AVG Internet Security or similar programs for the past 4 years and I've never had the problems I've had today. I had been sick with the flu so just today felt up to attempting this.
First it showed my AVG updates had taken place but I kept getting the red lettered screen that my virus definitions were out of date. I repeatedly tried to correct that and it kept showing the times the updates took effect but still the red words of "your virus definitions are out of date" and "you are not protected." Repeatedly I did the "uninstall/Repair" and it would get to 80% then I'd get an error message. So, I next went to the AVG Remove tool, which is to be so simple, right? NO it was not. I had to install that tool, run it and remove it from C drive about 3-4 times and still there AVG was on my computer. So, I downloaded and installed AVG Clear (or Clean, can't remember the name) and it finally seems to have removed all traces of AVG from my Windows 10. Windows Defender is back on and their Firewall is up.
I do not have a subscription and when I got this new computer late last October, my local tech installed my 2017 version of AVG Internet Security on my new computer since I still had 5 months paid on it. At that time I talked with someone at AVG telling them to turn OFF automatic renewals for this program as I was not sure how the new computer and me would go (I had used XP for years and was leery of my ability to use Windows 10). The AVG tech person assured me that he had stopped Automatic Renewals. IT BETTER BE. I am so not trying to be rude. I am a 66 year old woman who enjoys her computer but this has been the worst headache I've ever experienced with AVG. You have been an outstanding Antivirus and company to work with and I have felt secure with you until now. I don't know if I will install any AVG product in the future (and I know there is no refund, I don't even care about that). But, if Automatic Renewals was not turned off, you will be stuck and not get paid because my credit card has changed and if you try to renew and charge the old one it will get denied. I'm sorry. I have enjoyed your good service of the past. I wish your company all the best. It is hard for me to give up my AVG because I used the free version for years and years and then the paid version for the past 4 years. I never had a problem and trusted you completely to keep me protected. I have been so frustrated today but I think I will miss AVG.
Sincerely,
Juanita Bainter

Thank you for your responses. It was only after I had ran the AVG Clear tool and the AVG Remove tool and AVG was completely off my computer that the appropriate Meltdown/Spectre patch downloaded and installed successfully. This is regrettable as I loved my AVG for many years. Thank you.
