AVG Internet Security and Outlook v4 (Office pro 2010)

I have the latest AVG security v 22.12.3264 but am not able to get outlook v14 (part of office 2010)  to send or receive emails unless I disable the email shield .
I have tried the unchecking the scan boxes in basic protection - Email shield but still not luck
Any help or guidance would be much apricated
