AVG Internet Security Firewall ignores application rules since latest update

HI Raif,

This isn't the experience we want you to have. Let us work towards fixing the issue.
Initially, we appreciate your efforts & technical knowledge in troubleshooting the issue.
Please try modifying the option for the apps that attempts to access the internet, which has no defined rules by following the below steps & let us know if it helps:
Open AVG Internet Security - Menu - Settings - Full protection (left pane) - Enhanced firewall - Find 'For programs with no defined rules' section & change the option to 'Auto decide' from 'Ask'
Hi!
Since the latest update the Firewall seems to constantly ignore all application rules. Even Applications that already had full access (> Allowed Connections: All connections) now bug me 10 times consecutively to allow and allow their access again. Needless to say that the checkbox "remember my answer" is always ticked of course. So I tried...:
- to delete all application rules and renew them manually > didn't fix it
- to use the "reset to default" feature > didn't fix it
- to use the "reapair app " feature > didn't fix it
Please help because this error is VERY frustrating and NEVER occured prior to the latest update!
Thanks in advance,
Ralf

Hi!
Thanks for your quick response. I just have modified the option mentioned above according to your advice. I then launched an app which had no defined rule yet. Result: an application rule for this app has been created automatically (without any notifications) - Allowed connection status is 'Internet out (otherwise auto-decide)'. Also some other apps (which already had rules) have switched automatically from status 'Internet out (otherwise ask me)' to 'Internet out (otherwise auto-decide)' - should that be so?!
Well, at least it seems that Auto-decide-mode works correctly for newly created rules. (But as you can guess I want to continue to control every single app by myself, so that's not a permanent solution for me…)
Thanks and regards,
Ralf

From your message, we see that the auto-decide option works as it should, Raif. You'll be able to adjust access restrictions of apps by following the steps in this article.

Thanks for the link. I am already familiar with the application rules. It’s nice that you see that the auto-decide option works correctly, but as I’ve mentioned before, I have NO use for auto-decide mode. I repeat it clearly: I have to use ‚Ask-mode‘ because it’s the only way to INTERACTIVELY control my apps. If I do what you suggest, there is NO INTERACTIVE control any more. It is NOT an option to let AVG Firewall auto-decide in the background to allow connection for an app I actually want to block!
The undisputed main reason I chose AVG has been because of it’s INTERACTIVE Firewall. So, is there a way to make the firewall interactive again at the present or not?
Further I’ve found out, that even if I block all connections of an app via the application rules after AVG auto-decided, it isn’t REALLY blocked at all >> because there is no entry in the ‘blocked traffic log’ and obviously my app still has access to the internet…
With all respect, what has this update done to my appreciated Firewall? :frowning:
Regards Ralf
