I certainly understand your concern. Please open AVG ▸ Scan computer (gear icon) ▸ Scan Options ▸ Run other antivirus scans. Please select Acronis backup files, scan it and check If it finishes the scan within 2-3 seconds.
Regarding, the startup scan I would suggest you repair AVG Internet Security/protection from the control panel- program list and check if that fixes the issue.
We have recently updated to the latest version of AVGIS have used AVG for more years than we care to remember. I find it strange that if we attempt to scan an external drive that contains Acronis backup files it takes only 2-3 seconds to scan - Surely it can't scan a 2TB drive in 2-3 seconds.
Also, it seems that we can't scan so many minutes after the machine is switched on as we could before. This was ideal for a machine that is not switched on at a particular time.
