Hello Karthikeyan;
Things have gone very well for me.
I tried removing AVG Internet Security from the Control Panel. It worked just fine and I could see nothing to indicate there was anything left in my system. So, I skipped using the Clear tool and Remover tool and went straight to re-installing AVG AntiVirus Free. That went fine too and everything seems back to normal.
Thank you so much for all your help!
Jim
Hi Gunaseelan;
Thank you for the steps you have provided above. Before I proceed, I have a question. Should I first try to remove the AVG program with the uninstall in the Control Panel, or should I just remove it with the AVG Clear tool and then the AVG Remover tool?
Jim
Hello Jim,
You can try uninstalling the AVG Internet Security from the control panel which will show two options, "Uninstall" or "Switch to free version"
Please click on switch to free version and proceed with the onscreen instructions.
To get into control panel uninstall program window, please follow the steps as provided in this article: http://avgread.me/1DEtNP0 .
Thank you.
Jim
In this case, we suggest you to remove the AVG program completely and start a fresh installation of AVG Anti-Virus free.
Please run AVG Clear tool and AVG Remover tool to remove AVG and its traces, please use the following instructions
1 Use the link https://share.avg.com/steam/PSP/AVG2017/AVG_Clear.exe to run the AVG Clear tool.
2 Open the AVG Clear tool, click Yes in the User Account control dialog.
3 Click No in the Windows safe mode dialog.
4 Select the installed version of AVG, click Uninstall, then click Restart computer. (1/2)

AVG Guru
I'm having trouble following your above instructions. When I go to AVG Internet Security in the Add or Remove Programs in the Control Panel I have two options "Change" or "Remove". When I click on either one I'm taken to this screen:
Neither of the two choices offer me the ability to switch to the free version. What should I do?

Hi Bhuvaneswari;
I'll first try uninstalling AVG from the control panel.
After that I'm getting a bit confused. The article you've referenced above seems to suggest the AVG Remover tool should be used first and then the AVG Clear tool. However, Gunaseelan's above instructions from 12Aug suggest using the AVG Clear tool first and then the AVG Remover tool. Which order is correct?
Jim
The correct order is to run AVG Clear tool first and then run AVG remover tool. Please make sure to restart your computer after running AVG clear tool and then run AVG remover tool.
Jim, thank you for letting us know.
You are most welcome! Glad we could be of service
