This isn't the usual behavior of AVG program. Let us work towards fixing the issue.
I request you to repair the AVG using the steps mentioned in the below article :

I was wondering if you could help me.
I'm a bit worried.
I run Windows 7 on my Computer and today the 2nd of September 2020 when I did the automatic update on my AVG Free program.
After I rebooted I noticed the AVG icon on my desktop is Showing in RED , You are unprotected.
I clicked on the Icon to see what was wrong.
It shows in green my Computer and Webmail are protected okay.
But in words above it says in red you have Basic Protection with an exclamation mark in front
I don't know why this has happened.
Can you please help me.

I suggest you to try uninstalling and reinstall the AVG and check.

I tried this and did the repair however the problem is still there with the AVG icon on my desktop is Showing in RED , You are unprotected.
