AVG Internet Security, Windows 10 and a memory leak

Hello Matthew,
We apologize for the inconvenience caused. Could you please let me know which version of AVG are you using?

I'm using AVG Internet Security
Program file version 2016.0.7442
Version 16.41.7442
Framework 1.52.1.51616
Setup version 1.52.1.51612

Running on Windows 10 build 10586

AVG Internet Security was working very well with Windows 10, however recently AVG did a self-upgrade and told me to restart, which I did.  On restarting, and loading MS Outlook, suddenly everything started to freeze.

I opened up task manager to find that the AVG Email scanner was using 99% of my memory, but only around 0.3% CPU.  The problem was fixed by disabling the Email scanner part of AVG and restarting.  I've used the AVG removal tool and then downloaded and reinstalled AVG IS, waited for it to update itself and then tried again, however the same problem happens again as soon as Outlook gets its first incoming mail.  The mail is only released very very slowly (like 5 to 10 minutes) or if I try to kill the task through Task Manager.

I've tried telephoning support, but was put onto somebody who looked at my registry and found an single old entry for a competitor product which I had installed a trial of, and proceeded to tell me I had a virus and needed to buy a support package from them to fix the problem, at no time acknowledging any of the information I'd given her.  I've tried Live Chat, but after 45 minutes of nothing, this seemed like the only other option.

I'm not prepared to run without email scanning, and so after many years of being an AVG customer, think it may be time to clear my system and move to a competitor, as I can't seem to get anywhere.

Anybody have any ideas apart from uninstall and move elsewhere?

Hello Matt,

Thank you for your appreciation.
The reason we offered remote support is, only by taking the remote access we can analyze the situation and they could try to fix the issue.
If they couldn't fix it they will run a tool which will gather AVG program log files and will be escalated to our level two technical team.
Once it is escalated our team will analyze the log files and will communicate to you only via email.
