AVG Internet Security - Windows Updates Failing

I've been trying out the 60 day Full Protection and since it was installed, my Windows Automatic Updates have been failing, so afterwards I see that it must "undo" the update. This is concerning, and I'm wondering if it's due to an additional firewall which comes with the AVG protection. I've never had an update fail before, and it began after the AVG Internet Security was installed. I'm not very tech savvy, but I do remember seeing that I can't have more than on firewall on my system, so I've unsubscribed. Or perhaps it was a slow or failed connection with my server… heaven knows AT&T is not the most reliable, but they've forced me onto fiber optic, so I was hoping for a more reliable connection since then.

I also noticed that the subscription is for 10 devices, and since I only have one pc (desktop), at the end of the 60-day offer, I would just opt in for the 1 device, which is less expensive since I do feel more secure with the added protection. However, if this protection is preventing my windows updates, then I can't have it on my pc.

Any idea why this is happening now, when it never has in the past? I'm not sure what to do, but the only update that did work was one for a malicious software removal tool.

I noticed that others have also had an issue with the password protection having to be turned on every time I log on, and if it's part of the full protection, why doesn't it stay on?

Any advice would be appreciated… I like feeling more secure, but not if some updates can't be installed to protect my OS. Thanks!

Thank you for clarifying, Cheryl.
Sometimes, Malwarebytes would conflict with AVG. If you suspect AVG is blocking the windows update, you can uninstall AVG using AVG Clear & check with windows update.
Later you can reinstall, activate AVG Internet Security. Performing a clean installation would fix the Password protection issue simultaneously.

Greetings,

This isn't the usual behavior of AVG program. Let us work towards fixing the issue.
Disable the AVG protection for temporarily and check if the Windows updates are working

Do you have any other security application installed in your PC other than AVG?

Regarding the Password Protection component turned off, it was a bug and our developers have fixed it in the new update (20.10)
Reinstallation of the application will fix the issue.

I don't have any other security apps installed other than Malware Bytes…
I just checked my windows update history, and noticed the same thing happening last year when I tried the 60-day trial from 7/15 thru 9/12/20 … many updates failed then as well.
TBH I'm hesitant to turn off the AVG completely, and have no idea how to turn on the automatic updates, but even so when I re-boot and the AVG restarts, it's likely the same thing will happen.
