Ever since the last update, my AVG Internet Security program won't open up or run.

This isn't the usual behavior of AVG program. Let us work towards fixing the issue.
I request you to repair the AVG using the steps mentioned in this article :

Restart the PC and check if you are able to open the application.

I followed those instructions, in fact, I did it three times, but I still can't get the interface to open.
