We'll certainly look into it.
Do you see the information about which file is being scanned at the moment on the scan progress window?
If the files are changing, then the scan is not stuck but slow.

I am currently running AVG Internet security.
I have reached "scanning for advanced threats."
The scan has been on checking your system at 43% for 20 minutes.
Is this at all normal?

There is no file name.
Scan is still at 43%
The phrase "checking your sustem" is the only piece of data shown in addition to the 43% numeric.

We're sorry to know that, Bill. If the scan is stuck at 43% for a day, then it is unusual. 
In this regard, we'd suggest you to try repairing the AVG program once to check if it helps.
