May I ask when exactly do you see this message? Could you share a screenshot (https://bit.ly/3bfwDpw) of it?

It states, "We're sorry.  There is some problem on our side.  We'll fix it as soon as possible."

When will this be?  Is it legit or do I need to take action?

Todd, thank you for sharing the screenshot.
Uninstall AVG as per the steps in this link. Then follow the steps below to make sure AVG is completely removed.

1. Open Finder
2. In menubar select Go > Go to Folder…
3. Type /Library/Application Support/ and his the enter key
4. Locate and delete AVGAntivirus folder
5. Reboot computer and AVG should be removed completely.

You must be able to install it again without issues.
