AVG Is Blocking My Website From Loading Correctly Even Though the Site Works Normally Elsewhere

Hi All,

I am experiencing a problem with my website where it does not consistently load correctly when visitors access it while AVG security software is running on their computer. The website itself is online and works normally when I access it from environments where AVG is not active, but on systems protected by AVG the page can sometimes stop loading before all of its content becomes available. The browser begins loading the website and some of the basic page structure appears normally, but the loading process seems to stop before the page has finished initializing. As a result, visitors may see an incomplete version of the website instead of the full page that I expect them to see. The important point is that the website is not intentionally restricting these visitors and I have not configured the site to behave differently based on their security software. I am trying to understand why AVG would interfere with the website’s loading process and whether there is something about the site’s requests, scripts, resources, or security configuration that could cause AVG to treat normal website activity as something that should be blocked or interrupted.

The behavior is particularly difficult to troubleshoot because it does not appear to happen consistently on every visit. When the website is opened without AVG affecting the connection, the complete page loads as expected, which suggests that the website’s hosting and basic application functionality are working. However, when AVG protection is enabled, the same URL can sometimes load only partially, and the missing content appears to depend on which resources are being requested during the page load. The browser may display the main HTML structure while some dynamically loaded content never appears, leaving sections of the website incomplete. From the server side, I do not always see an obvious application error corresponding to the failed page load, which makes me wonder whether a request is being filtered or interrupted before it reaches the website properly. I have also tested the same pages at different times and found that the result can change between attempts, so I do not want to assume that the website itself is simply returning invalid content. I would like to determine whether AVG is making a security decision about one particular request or resource that subsequently prevents the rest of the website from completing its normal initialization.

I have already tried the usual website-side checks to make sure that the issue is not caused by a simple server failure. The website responds normally when accessed without the AVG-related behavior, and I have checked the browser developer tools to look for requests that remain pending or fail during the affected load. What I am seeing makes me suspect that one of the resources required by the page may be getting blocked or modified before the browser can use it. The website uses several normal web resources such as JavaScript files, stylesheets, images, and requests for dynamically generated content, so I am trying to identify whether one of these could be triggering a detection by AVG. I do not want to simply tell visitors to disable their antivirus protection, because that would obviously not be an appropriate solution and would not explain why the website is being affected in the first place. Instead, I would like to find the specific reason AVG is interfering with the page and determine whether there is something legitimate I can change on my website so that it can load normally while AVG protection remains enabled.

One thing I would especially like to understand is how AVG determines that a website resource should be blocked or interrupted. If the main domain itself is considered safe but one particular script, API request, external resource, or URL pattern causes a security detection, I would like to know how I can identify that specific resource. I have looked at the browser’s network activity during an affected page load, but because the behavior is intermittent, it is not always obvious which request is responsible for the incomplete page. In some cases the browser simply appears to wait for a resource that never becomes available, while in other cases the page continues loading but remains incomplete. This makes me wonder whether AVG is silently preventing a request from completing rather than displaying an obvious warning to the user. If AVG provides any logs, notifications, detection history, website reputation information, or other diagnostic information that can identify exactly what was blocked, I would appreciate guidance on where I should look and what information would be useful to provide when investigating a legitimate website that appears to be affected by a security rule.

I am also trying to rule out the possibility that the problem is related to how my website delivers its resources rather than the actual content of those resources. For example, the site may request some content dynamically after the initial HTML document has loaded, and if AVG evaluates those requests differently from the main page request, that could potentially explain why the basic layout appears while parts of the page remain missing. I have reviewed the website configuration and am checking things such as HTTPS delivery, resource URLs, redirects, and the way the page loads external assets, but I do not want to make unnecessary changes without knowing what AVG is actually detecting. If there is a recommended way for website owners to test whether a page or resource is being blocked by AVG, I would like to follow that procedure and collect the relevant technical information. A reliable testing method would also help me determine whether the problem is associated with a particular URL or resource instead of assuming that the entire website has been classified incorrectly.

Has anyone in the AVG community dealt with a legitimate website that loads correctly in normal testing but becomes incomplete when AVG protection is active? I would mainly like advice on how to identify the exact AVG detection or filtering event responsible for the interrupted page load and what information I should collect before making changes to the website. I can provide the affected URL, browser developer-tool information, timestamps of failed attempts, server-side request information, and details about which resources appear to stop loading if those would help with troubleshooting. My goal is not to bypass AVG’s protection or ask visitors to turn security features off; I want to understand why the website is being interfered with and, if appropriate, correct whatever legitimate website-side configuration is causing the detection. If there is a specific AVG log, diagnostic screen, reporting process, or recommended test for website owners dealing with this type of behavior, I would appreciate any guidance on where to start. Thanks!

Hi @Glen_Phillips,
Please connect with the support team via the AVG Help Centre.

Thanks for pointing me to the AVG Help Centre. I’ll contact the support team there since they should be able to check whether the affected website or one of its resources is being detected or filtered on their side. I’ll provide the affected URL along with the details from the browser network/console when the incomplete load occurs so they have enough information to investigate it.
